Audit FAQs

Will your audit reduce my energy consumption?

The focus of the audit is not consumption reduction.  Our focus is on cost reduction.

How long does the entire Utility Bill Audit Process take?

The time it takes to complete the process depends on numerous variables such as the size of consumption, billing and accounting errors, faulty calculations, surcharges, misclassifications and tariffs.  Your audit will move in stages and you will be informed of the status throughout the audit process.  The entire process is usually complete in 18 weeks, although large energy users can sometimes be longer.

Summit Power Brokers offer commercial customers a utility bill audit service for electric, gas, and water. We look for errors in billing that go undetected and work on your behalf to recover your capital. Our audit team of accountants and attorneys will thoroughly examine the various complicated components of your bill to check for overcharges from the utility. Once we identify a discrepancy we contact you to finalize the paperwork that was initiated from receiving your bill and recover your money from the resulting billing errors. Refunds vary depending on many different variables such as size of energy consumption, states, regulations, and time frame audited. Most states will permit us a three to four year look back. Our auditors typically recover funds in 70% of the audits we perform. If your organization uses more than $30,000 annually in energy expenses you should have an audit performed. If you are a medium to large user of electric, natural gas, or water, you should consider having an audit done. Summit Power Brokers offers this service to commercial energy users.
